    Life is pretty good.

I've neglected my blog. Whoops. So here's a recap of the last few months.

    • Camping weekend at Lake Conjola - We drove down after work on Friday afternoon, stopped at Bateman's Bay for dinner, then drove another hour north to Lake Conjola. The campsite was right on the coast next to the beach. It was 8pm, and we set up our tents in the dark by torchlight. That was a fun experience. The tent I was sharing was the hardest to set up as it was a 6-man tent, considering I'd never set one up before, I think we did a pretty good job.

There were kangaroos, possums and rabbits freely roaming around the campsite and they weren't afraid of people. Luckily, the weather was beautiful the entire weekend except Saturday night when it poured down with rain.

      Beach, cards, bocce, eating.

The water in the lake was so clear and different shades of blue.

    • I went the Greenfaces Comedy Shows where 6 newbies (or greenfaces) have about 15mins on stage and the audience votes for the winner who goes on to the National Final. I went to two shows where Jimeoin and Akmal hosted and did some comedy off the cuff. I'd love to see one of Jimeoin's shows, he can make the simplest things hilarious.
    • I started Salsa level 3 and am really enjoying myself. Try to go to Monkeybar every week/fortnight to practice.
    • The DVA Spring Ball was a good chance to doll up, wear a pretty dress, curl my hair and have fun. There was a live 16 piece Jazz band, not the easiest music to dance to but they were impressive. Clubbing til the early morning afterwards.
    100_6564
    • Blake's visit to Canberra was exciting. He wasn't here long enough to try out all the food places I wanted to take him to. But we did our best. Lots of eating, wii-playing and a little bit of sight-seeing. It was nice to see him again!
    100_6542100_6543
    • My branch's end of financial year celebrations - Lunch at the Turkish Pide House and 9 holes at the Pitch & Putt. I received the Bradbury Award - WOOHOO - where I came dead last out of the entire branch (about 35 of us). WOOHOO! I'd like to thank the tree that got in the way, and the duck that happened to be in an unfortunate spot.
I have lots of exciting things planned in the next few months:
    • Sydney next weekend
    • Skydiving in 3 weeks time YIKES!
    • Maybe Melbourne for New Year's
    • Europe and seeing my family in Italy in Feb-March! I'd be going with my mum and sister, we're already looking at flights and tours. I have 7 weeks leave approved. I just need to majorly save.
    • Going back to uni to study Accounting part-time while working full-time. Not 100% on that...but something I'm thinking about..
So many things on my mind. So much research and planning to do. I had to reapply for my own job as I'm on an acting position at the moment, and I've applied for a permanent position otherwise I go down a level. Interviews will be next month sometime. But I also applied for a higher position...which would mean I leave the finance area. If I take that position, do I still want to study accounting?

    Life is pretty good otherwise.

    Update

I realised I haven't written in quite some time. So I'll try to remember what's happened the past few weeks.
    • I finished salsa classes 2 weeks ago, they've had a bit of a break between terms and I'm starting level 2 next week. There's a guy in the class that makes me a bit uncomfortable who seems to have taken a liking to me. He's dropping the wednesday class (which is the one I go to) for the Monday class, which was good news for me. But I am taking a 4 week bachata course (another latino dance style) which is on wednesdays, so I have to go to the Monday class for the first 2 lessons. My dance partner is on holidays for a month, so I'll have to fend for myself. I'm dreading going alone. But I really can't wait to learn more moves. I've been to a few latin dance nights now and it's still intimidating being asked to dance by someone whose had years of experience while I only know basic steps and turns. Meanwhile, bachata is slower than salsa but still good fun. Only 2 classes left.

    • There was the mystery of the ice-cream thief. I'd bought Connosieur cookies & cream icecream and left it in the freezer at work (I do my groceries in the morning before work). When I took it home, the plastic covering that seals the icecream in had been peeled off, and someone had scooped out some of my icecream! It was shocking to discover. Who would do something like that? Out of the people that I work with?? We hosted our branch morning tea later that week, and during cleanup we were joking about the icecream thief when one of the ladies on our floor asked if it was cookies & cream? Turns out she'd bought the same thing a few weeks back and thought she'd left it in the freezer accidentally, so helped herself. It was quite funny. She bought me a brand new tub that afternoon.

    • I got to dress up as santa's little helper or an elf for a Xmas in June party which was good fun.

    • I've decided to buy an ipod touch! I've never had an mp3 player before but I listen to music from my phone at work (I can only fit 10 songs on there). I just want something new to play with.

    • Recent talks of travel - Kat emailed me earlier this month asking if I wanted to go to Hawaii later this month. It made me realise that I have enough money for a mini-holiday if I wanted to go on one. No I'm not going to Hawaii (though I was seriosuly contemplating it) as it was too short notice. She's not going either as she has too much work on. But I've been looking at maybe taking a holiday.

    • I made a decision today - I'm going to be a homeowner before I'm 30. It gives me just over 5 years to save for a deposit. I know I can do it. But that may mean I have to forego my holiday.

    • Why is it that I eat more icecream in winter than in summer??

    • Went to my first trivia night and I completely suck at trivia.

    • I'm seeing Harry Potter next Tuesday. It will be the late session so I'm going to be so tired at work the next day. But it should be worth it

    • I bought Mario Kart for my wii and came first in one game for the first time! I need more practice.

    • Blake is coming to visit me! YAY! 3 more weeks and I get to see him after about 1.5 years.

    • Have gone to many dinners and nights out dancing - all great fun!

    Crush

So the guy I have a crush on, lets just call him Stu.

A group of us went out to lunch today and I picked him up. He'd spent Friday and Saturday night out with the girl he's been after, lets call her Amanda. This was crushing because I (very sadly) waited around for him to call to do something Friday night.

Amanda has a boyfriend, but yet she flirts with Stu and always asks him to go out with her and her friends and not her own boyfriend. Even her friends think its weird. Stu always says yes and goes out. But he is getting frustrated at her. He likes her a lot. Why did I ever think he liked me?

I just want to stop liking him already so it won't hurt if I see him with Amanda or someone else he tries to pick up.

Then I think, why can't I be more sporty? more competitive? more talkative? why can't I crack jokes like the rest of them? I don't like myself sometimes.

I guess this is why crushes are called crushes. They will crush you.

    Update

    Over the past month:
    • I've had 4 salsa classes so far, and it's SO MUCH FUN! I'm glad I finally signed up to do it. The money is completely worth it. Only  6 more classes to go before I finish Beginners. I'm planning to do Level 2 as well and hopefully my friend will come with me.
    • I've started learning some qi gong and tai chi. Even though tai chi is very slow, it's extremely difficult keeping up with shifting your weight to one foot or the other, watch where the feet are pointing, bend the knees right and watch where the hands are meant to go. The instructor (who does this for free and teaches us as best he can), says it will take a while to feel natural. He looks so good doing it.
    • Dressed up as a Bond Girl
    • Done more clubbing in the past month than I have my whole time in Perth! Very unlike me, but I was being spontaneous.
    • Met a cute cop.
    • Caught up with someone I met in China who currently lives in Sydney and is most likely moving to Canberra. It was a nice day and really good to talk to someone outside the normal grad group. He made me dinner at my place. It was the sweetest thing. No one's ever made me dinner before (excluding the parents and visiting friend's houses). He told me he secretly had a crush on me back when we met in China 2 years ago but he had a girlfriend. (And I secretly had a crush on him too).
    • Played lawn bowls. It's actually quite difficult, you need to get the right balance and oomph in speed.
    • Watched Wolverine and Star Trek - which I both liked!
    • Majorly improved in my BodyStep classes
    • Laughed about walking into glass doors
    • Worked on my bucket list
    • I think I have a crush on someone at work. But he's been chasing this other girl who works on my floor for the past few months. Two of my friends think he likes me. It's confusing. In some things he does, I think he must but then when we go out clubbing with friends, he'll chat up and hookup with anyone in a skirt. Actions speak louder than words.

    Korean BBQ=yum!

The Korean BBQ place was pretty good. It wasn't a buffet where you select all your own meats and there was hardly much on the menu. The boys ordered 3 serves of the beef bbq  and I ordered the bulgogi.

Korean bbq Hung a ri restaurant

It was SOOO GOOOD! So tasty, I will definitely go back.

Dinner went well, we chatted and got to know each other. He asked for my number and I gave it to him, well technically I told Nick to give it to him as it was freezing outside and I wanted to get in the car. I hope I didn't seem rude. He seems like someone I'd want to hang out with. I don't think there are any romantic feelings there though. He asked if he could ring me sometime to catch up and I said sure. It would be nice to have more friends outside the grad group. The next day, Nick kept pushing about how good and honest and reliable Sambo was, talking him up like a best friend does. Props to him. But there was no spark. It would've been perfect if there was, but I guess these things don't come easily.

So how do I let him know I just want to be friends? When we technically haven't gone on a date yet?

It's the Anzac Day long weekend. And I'm sick. Good time for a long weekend though, its cold and rainy outside. Perfect weather to stay home, stay warm, fill up on honey and lemon tea and watch some new dvds.

I'm going to a James Bond themed party in 2 weeks, so I've been ebaying for something to wear. I have a rough idea but I've never seen a Bond movie so I don't think I'll go as a character but I'm planning to wear a dress. Just need some accessories.

I realised I have hardly any make up so I'll need to stock up on some things next week. Cue had a sale off full-priced items so I couldn't resist and bought a gorgeous navy blue dress and a skirt for work.

Daniel is buying his own place sometime this year, so he and Laura will be moving out of the Kitchener pad. Marty and Kat have asked me to move in. They're even willing to give me the master bedroom with the ensuite. I wouldn't be moving in til at least October as my lease for my current place runs out then. I told them I'd think about it.

    Pros
    1. Rent will be about $20 cheaper a fortnight.
    2. It's a nice house, very new, with a lovely kitchen. It's also huge.
    3. The company will be nice
    4. My own bathroom that I won't need to share!
    5. I can walk to work and save on fuel
    6. I only have to cook every 4 days (sharing with 3 other housemates)
    Cons
    1. The cheaper rent is offset by the fact that I'll have to buy my lunch everyday. I currently cook enough so I can take leftovers for lunch the next day and usually have enough for a 3rd or 4th serving as well.
    2. I have to cook for other people! I've gotten used to my cooking and will eat whatever I make. But with housemates, I'll really have to cook something good.
    3. Saying goodbye to my privacy. Kat has told me any secrets will be out and everything you say will be locked away and can be used against you. In a nice way of course.
    4. What if they all move on and out and I'm stuck in the house having to advertise for other housemates?
    5. I'd have to sell my fridge and washing machine. Unless I can store them somewhere.
    6. I don't know if I want to give up my own place. I'm the type of the person that really needs 'me' time. People will be in my space all the time if I move in.
    7. The bedroom's built in wardrobes have mirrors on the outside. Bad feng shui! And yes I'm serious.
    8. I don't want people seeing me sick. I know that sounds stupid but its the truth. I'm grumpy when I'm sick.
    9. Rent can go up whereas my landlords here have told me they won't raise my rent as they like me.
So the cons seem to outweigh the pros. I still have 6 months to think about it.

  • The Dating Game

I think I'm being set up by two of my friends. Who just happen to be brothers. By 'set up', I mean with their friends.

It started when Minh suggested we meet for cake and coffee one weekend. I said yes, expecting to finally meet his girlfriend when he said 'We'll meet you there.' To my surprise, there was another guy there and no girlfriend. Sunny is his high school and uni buddy. They're 30 and 32yrs old. It was a bit weird as Minh bought the cakes and told Sunny and I who'd only met for 3mins to buy the coffees. So we made some polite chit chat and he insisted on paying for me. That kind of freaked me out as by then, we'd only known each for about 7 mins.

That was the night we played pool. Sunny and I ended up playing on our own table.

Today, I texted Minh about this Thai Food Festival and he said he was going with friends and I should come along. He would pick me up in 20mins. Well 20mins later, he had to meet some people for about 45mins so he'd sent Sunny to come pick me up instead and would meet us there. I messaged back saying I'd drive myself instead but Minh said no, Sunny was already halfway here. Crap.

He's a decent good guy. But there's just no attraction. Physical or mental.

I asked Sunny how he found out about the food festival and he said through me. Minh rang him and asked if he was free to go, probably after I texted him. After a huge pig out at Koko Black's, one of them had to drive me home. Minh said Sunny had better drive me home. The sly dog. I agreed to go to Sydney with them next weekend (Anzac Day long weekend). Minh's going to organise it. I'd like to go as they're fun to hang out with. I just don't want to lead anyone on, especially as Minh's friends are going (who are all coupled up) and give the impression that we're together.

Nick is Minh's younger brother who's the same age as me. At the pool night, his friend Sambo was also there. I hardly talked to the guy as I was on the other side of the table at dinner, and I was playing pool with Sunny. Nick rings me the next day asking if I wanted to have coffee with him and his mates. It was about 6pm and I couldn't be bothered going out so I declined. He told me Sambo thought I was nice and would like to get to know me better. I agreed to dinner with Nick and Sambo this week at this new Korean BBQ restaurant. I think it's going to be weird. Them on one side of the table, me on the other, and them interrogating me. What swayed me to go was the food. Korean buffet bbq! Is that sad??

Might see if I can bring another girl with me to even it out.

Everyone is building their own homes! Well okay, 3 people my age. But wow. I feel so...behind in things.

Saturday night, Tash came down to Canberra to visit us. We went to Uni Pub for dinner and some pool, Mooseheads for dancing, and King O'Malley's for more dancing. I don't usually go dancing but it was a really fun night. Though, King O'Malley's is really full of old 40-50year old perverts. It was the first time I got home so late. And I didn't have to worry about my parents telling me to come home. Good times.

    Koko blacks
Koko Black - Hot Chocolate, Chocolate Mousse Martini, Iced Chocolate, Icecream Martini, and Belgian Spoil Platter. To share between the 3 of us of course.

    Easter weekend

The long Easter weekend was badly needed.

Everyone pretty much left Canberra to drive home to Sydney or Melbourne. So I had no real plans. I was looking forward to doing nothing.

Thursday night: before everyone left we had a bowling night. I didn't know I had to bring socks so I washed my feet several times when I got home. I came 2nd in the first game and last in the second game. Wedges were yummy! Then some Thai for dinner and cards into the night. I learnt how to play Rickety-Kate (not sure how to spell it, its in Dutch) aka Hearts. I had no idea what the hell I was doing, honestly NO CLUE, but I won the whole game (scoring based on the first person reaching 150 points loses). That was cool.

Easter Friday: I had my hot cross buns, chocolate and dvds.

Saturday: I bought an Alannah Hill dress I first saw on a mannequin at David Jones for about $450 about 2 years ago, on sale at DFO for $100. It's one size too big, but still looks okay. At least I can still wear it if i get fat. I met up with a friend from work and one of his mates for coffee and cake. There's apparently a really good cake shop right here in Queanbeyan but it was closed due to the holidays. So we had Gloria Jeans coffees and Michel's Patisserie cakes. I don't recommend eating any small cakes from Michel's after 3. It was so dry and obviously left over from the day before. I got invited to dinner and a pool competition with some others from work whom I didn't really know. I'm glad I went, it was a fun night and I won pool against a guy 2-Nil. Go me!

Sunday: Was quite a boring day. I stayed home and remember standing around thinking what I should do. I ended up reading P.S. I Love You, which was kind of shite. The little notes were very sweet. But I didn't like the ending.

Monday: I headed to the Queanbeyan branch of the gym. Oh yeah, I officially joined the gym last week! Locked in for 12 months now. I go to the Mawson branch after work as its realy close to work, and on weekends I plan to head to the Queanbeyan one which is so much better (I think). Real glass showers, paper towels, hair dryers and couches in the ladies room. But the music isn't loud enough. I'm still yet to buy an mp3 player. I always feel so good after a workout. I finally read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho which was a good little book to read on a lazy afternoon. I watched '17 Again' with Susan at the movies and I quite liked it. It was a fun movie anyway.

Today: I was refreshed and ready to get back into work. I usually do my grocey shopping before I get to work around 7.30am. I headed to Woollies and picked up a few things. I had to get some eggs which were on the bottom shelf. I knelt down with one hand holding my basket, the other to try and lift the carton lid up to check the eggs weren't cracked. I couldn't seem to lift up the flap and all of a sudden...in slow motion...the eggs smashed on the floor. All of them! There was no one else in the aisle. So I got up and made a run for the check out. I was going to tell the check out guy what I'd done but there was a queue behind me. So I paid for my goods, and walked out very red in the face. I feel so guilty and am still cringing! They probably have me on camera and will look out for me next time.  I can no longer go back to Woollies in Woden. Guess I have to switch to Coles.

    Lemonade Cupcakes

My friend Kat always drinks lemonade. She's just not a coke girl. So for her birthday, I decided to make her lemonade cupcakes.

It took forever to hunt down some lemonade mix. There's a recipe online that uses frozen lemonade concentrate but you can't get that in Australia.

I had to practice making lemonade frosting a few times. It still didn't taste much like lemonade (even though I added a lot in) but I got it to NOT taste like lemon.

    Lemonade Cupcakes1
                                 The finished product

    Lemonade Cupcakes4

It was so much fun to decorate! I got the idea to decorate with a straw from here

It's meant to look like a glass of lemonade with a straw and wedge of lemon. Some people didn't get it!

    What to do...

I went to the Lifeline Bookfair the other weekend. Got some good bargains - the whole Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb for only $15! bought a few boardgames too.

Skyfire 21 was also held last weekend, we got a good spot right by the lake and the fireworks were so close to us. Forgot the camera though.

I'm still trying to find something to fill my time with. I was going to try some classes with a friend before I joined the gym but it keeps getting put off. There's karate at the university 3 times a week but that's further than I'd like to travel. Maybe some Mandarin language classes?

I think I have a tiny crush on someone.

But he likes someone else and they're 'hanging out' a lot, so its kind of painful. Hope it passes soon.

Next week: I'll do a 5-day trial at Alive gyms. I really do want to get fit.

    I need to stop buying

Today I bought the Wii Fit and a third wii remote.

I also won my first 2 bids on eBay! I bought the Raving Rabbids 1 and 2 games. The second which I played at a friends house and was so much fun, and the first is apparently better. I'm now on the lookout for Raving Rabbids TV Party which is used in conjunction with the wii fit board and you move around using your behind.

Last week I bought Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl. Not to mention the $70 worth of books I bought during my lunchbreaks. I must stop buying!

The wii is fun and definitely a party console. I can play games on my own fo rmaybe half an hour before I get bored. Last weekend, Kat came over and we played for about 5hrs straight. I'm embarrassed to admit that i was sore the next day. The wii fit is only really meant for one person and I think it was a good purchase.

It's the long weekend and I'm planning to enjoy it as much as possible.

Tonight theres dinner at Noble Palace and then watching Watchmen. Tomorrow, yumcha and general hanging out with Jack and Susan, then drinks and general hanging out at the party house ie: the house 3 of the ex-grads share. Monday I hope to have a nice stay at home day reading a new book.
